Today I have to try and get my transportation card renewed. When we were getting the transportation cards the IAESTE leaders didn't know exactly how to do it and so it took a couple of tries and a couple of days to get it. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Buying the card itself costs a few euros but then the cost of a month long pass is only 8 euros. Since individual tickets are about 50 cents each then it is cheaper to get the month long pass if you are going to use it more than 8 days. I will be here for 11 more days so I think it will be worth it. The other advantage to the card is that you only need to have it with you on the trams and busses. You don't have to scan it or anything and you can take as many bus and tram rides as you want.
A few things about the busses and trams:
At some stops the bus driver doesn't allow the doors to be opened in the middle and back of the bus right away. Only after people have tried the buttons to open the doors, given up and gone to the front of the bus where the door is open, does the bus driver then open the back doors for people on the bus to get off.
All of the busses and trams have green buttons to push on the outside and the inside to open the doors.
There are also red buttons inside the bus that signal the bus to stop. The green buttons used for opening the doors can also be pushed to signal a stop so I don't know why they have the red ones at all.
Some of the busses that are in use are really old. Some of the other trainees were surprised that they were still using these old busses.
If you decide to buy paper tickets for each ride you have to buy them at little paper stands that are near some of the bus and tram stops.
