This weekend we toured some of Košice's main attractions.
On Friday night we were invited to a Latino party by one of Maria's co-workers. This party was great! There was lots of Salsa, Bachata, Merengue music, one waltz, and a couple of cha cha cha's by request from us. There were also some really fast paced Salsa lessons that everyone took part in (the floor was completely packed). I think that everyone, that is Maria, Vladimir, Martin, Danielle, Dubravka, and I, had a great time.
On Saturday Maria, Martin, and I took the 29 bus to a hill overlooking Košice. At the last stop there is a summer bobsled ride. We paid for a 6 pack of tickets and each went twice. We sat in little cars with wheels that have a brake in the middle. You pull back the handle to brake and push it forward to free the brake and go faster! There is rope that tows you up the hill in the little car so you don't even have to walk up. It was so much fun and we took a bunch of pictures and a few videos as we went down.
After the bobsled ride we went to the zoo which was also at this bus stop. It only cost 1.20 euros and we had a great time watching all of the animals and trying to pick out which ones looked most like our friends who were missing all of this fun. We had a little bit of lunch that we had packed and hot dogs while at the zoo.
When we had visited with all of the animals we returned to the bus and took it a little ways down the hill to where the path to the old Košice Castle or Košický Hrad was located. A nice couple on the bus helped us find this stop. After having a drink at the cafe at the stop we continued up the path to see the ruins of the castle and at the end of the path, the Observation tower. We climbed the tower for some amazing panaramic views of Košice and the surrounding towns.
Saturday evening we were tired but we still decided to go to town to take some night photos of the town and Cathedral all lit up. Košice is very beautiful at night!
On Sunday Vladimir, Maria, Martin and I took the train to Poprad to go to AquaCity, a huge waterpark and thermal spa. I was a little upset in the morning because the train was more than I was told it would be but the waterpark was worth the price. There was a tower with four slides of different kinds, another indoor tower with two tube slides, indoor thermal pools with jets (at night there is also a lazer show), a 50 meter sport swimming pool, saunas, outdoor thermal pools of varying temperatures and jets, rings for making waves and wirlpools, blow up ball for kids to play in on the water, excersice dance classes in the water, and more. Basically they had everything. We were there until 6:30pm and we could have been there longer but we needed to take the train back to Košice. Sunday night was Danielle's last night with us so we needed to be back to say goodbye to her.
All in all, it was a great weekend and on Monday I was very tired!
